Pathfinder is working across Mozambique—in every province—to bring sexual and reproductive health care to those who need it most. Pathfinder works to strengthen the health system and workforce across the country, build a strong response to sexual and gender-based violence, and challenge restrictive policies to remove barriers to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).

Across Mozambique, Pathfinder provides integrated and comprehensive, right-based sexual and reproductive health and quality services while also empowering adolescents, youth, women, men, and vulnerable groups and key populations to make informed choices that are free from stigma and discrimination.

  • Building Gender Equity
Pathfinder builds a strong local response to sexual and gender-based violence so that survivors get the help they need without delay. We work to decrease harmful practices, sociocultural norms, and beliefs that limit adolescent girls and young women’s decision making and control over their sexual and reproductive health, sexuality, and bodily integrity. We work at all levels of society—including with adolescent girls and young women, their families, and communities—to shift social norms and behaviors that perpetuate child, early, and forced marriage.
  • Contraception
Pathfinder works to increase contraceptive access, agency, and continuity of services for girls, adolescents and women by putting them at the center, leveraging and strengthening gender equality. We support the Ministry of Health and local partners to improve access to SHRH services, as well as work to strengthen health infrastructure.
  • HIV & AIDS
Pathfinder supports key populations with HIV and reproductive health services—including men who have sex with men, transgender people and female sex workers—as these groups are not only at higher risk for HIV, but also experience the most stigma in seeking services. Adolescent girls and young women are five times more vulnerable than male peers, and Pathfinder targets interventions to prevent new infections in this key population. We bring information, and testing, to those who need it most.
  • Enabling Environment
Pathfinder works alongside local and international organizations to challenge restrictive policies and inspire policymakers and communities to remove barriers to sexual and reproductive rights. We strengthen health centers and support community health workers so that more people—especially young people—have access to the contraceptive information and services they need.
  • Comprehensive Abortion Care (CAC)
Pathfinder works to increase the number of community influencers involved in supporting women and girls to access CAC services through targeted social behavior change (SBC) approaches. We also work to increase the number of health facilities able to provide quality CAC services through provider capacity strengthening and advocacy for increased prioritization, allocation, and use of resources for CAC at national, provincial, and/or district levels.
  • Institutional Capacity Building
Pathfinder works to strengthen the institutional capacities of civil society, local partners. and community-based organizations to implement health and human rights-based programs. This includes capacity building in the areas of governance, financial management, advocacy, human resources, and structural areas for institutional development.
