Overview
Kenya’s five coastal counties have seen a considerable drop in HIV prevalence since 2007, but women, adolescents, and key populations are still at a higher risk. This three-year project strengthens delivery of HIV and reproductive health services and builds the capacity of the health systems in five counties—Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale, and Taita Taveta.
Project Activities
- Improved and increase the quality and delivery of key packages of health services, including HIV, maternal and newborn child health, family planning, health and sanitation, and nutrition.
- Strengthened health centers across the system so more people in more places have access to the health information and services they need.
- Provided tailored capacity building to each county so health officials plan for and respond to their evolving health needs.
- Supported key populations—including men who have sex with men and female sex workers—as these groups are not only at higher risk for HIV, but also experience the most stigma in seeking services.
