Overview
For nearly 40 years, Pathfinder has partnered with the Government of Egypt to advance reproductive health in the country. Pathfinder’s USAID-funded OSRA (meaning Family) program will build on this long history of partnership to work hand-in-hand with a wide array of multisectoral Government of Egypt partners, the private sector, civil society partners, and communities to reach OSRA’s goal of improved health outcomes among Egyptian families by reinforcing the national family planning and reproductive health program.
Through locally-led interventions, Pathfinder will work to increase women’s and men’s access to high quality family planning (FP) information, counseling, contraceptive methods, and services delivered by competent providers; enable young people to mature into healthy adults by increasing their knowledge of reproductive health; and empower women, men, and couples to achieve power-balanced family relationships. OSRA will focus on digital technology integrations to improve access to and demand for reproductive health information and services.
Project Activities
- Utilize and develop digital technology integrations to improve access to and demand for reproductive health information and services.
- Work with the Ministry of Health to strengthen public-private partnerships, scaling up access in rural and underserved areas.
- Integrate family planning services into existing health services along the continuum of care for adolescents, youth, women, and men.
- Increase community support for family planning by transforming Primary Health Centers to Family Development Centers, where community members will learn life skills and gender equity norms, and engage in activities that promote and reinforce these lessons.
- Engage with youth and adolescents to design, adapt, and implement age-appropriate activities that speak to their needs and realities and engage them meaningfully in interventions.
- Address and transform restrictive gender norms, roles, and relations that limit women and girls’ access to, use of, and benefit from family planning and reproductive health information and services.
- Engage men and boys in promoting positive norms around masculinity, while building community skills in preventing and responding to violence against women and girls.
