Overview
2008–2016

From 2008 through 2016, 36 million people—nearly 40% of the population—have been touched by the Integrated Family Health Program, led by Pathfinder and John Snow, Inc. The project worked with the government of Ethiopia to improve the quality and accessibility of contraceptive, maternal, newborn, and child health services for all people.

Project Activities

  • Worked hand-in-hand with the government to improve the quality and availability of contraceptive, maternal, newborn, and child health services.
  • Made sure short-term, long-acting, permanent, and emergency contraception are always available so people of all ages can choose the method that’s best for them.
  • Built the capacity of national and regional health authorities to collect and use health data for decision-making, reduce stock-outs of essential drugs and supplies, and engage in mentoring of health providers at the facility level.
  • Increased educational and future economic opportunities available to girls by working with community leaders to cancel or defer early marriages.
  • Trained health providers and community leaders to identify and refer women and girls experiencing obstetric fistula for treatment.
