The AmplifyFP project in Côte d’Ivoire: Family Planning Special Days, an approach to reducing financial barriers to the use of contraceptive methods

In Côte d’Ivoire, the maternal mortality rate is estimated at 385 per 100,000 live births (EDS-CI 21). Family planning is one of the pillars for reducing this high rate of maternal death. However, according to the EDS-CI 2021, the contraceptive prevalence rate is 21% and unmet needs are 22%. Also, from September 2022 to April 2023, there were 3,588 cases of pregnancy among young girls in school, according to the National Council for Human Rights.

One of the major causes of the low use of contraceptive methods is the financial barrier. The price charged is exorbitant and differs from one health facility to another in the same district. This situation limits the use of FP to a certain class of client.

Therefore, to help reduce this financial barrier and give women and girls the opportunity to choose whether and when to have children, the AmplifyFP project has organized special family planning days to offer the full range of contraceptive methods free of charge to all women who want them.

The results of these family planning days are very interesting. Join the Côte D’Ivoire webinar to learn more about these results.
