Unveiling the Power of Community-Led Solutions: Addressing the Maternal Health Crisis in West Africa

We are almost one decade into the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) era, and global progress toward reducing maternal mortality has stagnated.

Mothers in West Africa face some of the highest maternal mortality ratios in the world, and are at increased risk of dying from preventable complications in childbirth and pregnancy. This risk is exacerbated by fragile security contexts, overwhelmed health systems, and impacts of climate change.

As the world approaches 2030, we—as national and international NGOs, government bodies, regional institutions, and advocates for maternal health—must collectively intensity efforts toward reducing the global maternal mortality rate to less than 70 deaths per 100,000 live births, as described under SDG 3.

On Thursday, June 20 join Pathfinder, Mali Health, USAID, African Union CARRMA, and the Ministries of Health of Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, and Niger for a discussion on harnessing the power of community-based solutions to curb maternal mortality in West Africa. During this online webinar, partners will discuss progress made though community-led solutions and reflect on how best to strengthen local organizations’ technical capacities and resource mobilization skills.

This webinar will be hosted in French. English translation will be available.
