Overview
The Building Healthy Families (BHF) is a USAID-funded five-year project, led by Pathfinder International. The project’s cornerstone is to improve population health outcomes through stronger primary care systems, encouraging the uptake and continuation of voluntary family planning (FP) and maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH) services. Our approach employs hybrid market development and health system strengthening to identify the root causes of poor community access to these services. We collaborate with government and private sector partners to develop policy solutions, strengthen health systems, and support communities to make informed health decisions.
Project Activities
The project expands the delivery of FP/MNCH products and services through private and public community-based providers. It tests new and existing high-impact practices, working with the government to scale up those that are most effective.
Beyond the project’s focus on women and girls, BHF reaches men and youth so that they can knowledgably communicate about, demand, and use essential services. This includes working with health providers to test, refine, and scale up youth engagement and counseling models. Additionally, BHF applies innovative, evidence-based social and behavior change interventions with young individuals and couples, and men.
