In 2016, with support from MSD for Mothers, Pathfinder International implemented a complementary private sector arm to the USAID-funded Saving Mothers, Giving Life (SMGL) initiative, engaging private-for-profit (PFP) facilities in Cross River State. An evidence-based set of interventions was implemented to address the three delays associated with maternal and newborn mortality. At endline, the project recorded a 66% reduction in facility maternal mortality ratio (MMR) and a 47% reduction in facility perinatal mortality rates (PMR). SMGL 2.0 Kaduna State proposes to scale up key interventions from the successes in Cross River State.
SMGL 2.0 Kaduna State aims at improving access to maternal and newborn services, quality of maternal and newborn care and institutional delivery services and strengthening collaboration and partnership between Kaduna State Ministry of Health and the private health sector.
