Training alone is not enough to improve health workers’ confidence and competency to provide quality health services. To drive significant improvements in the capacity of Bangladesh’s family planning workforce, the USAID-funded, Pathfinder-led Accelerating Universal Access to Family Planning Project, known as Shukhi Jibon in Bangladesh, partners with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to pioneer an integrated Mentorship and Supportive Supervision (M&SS) model.
Shukhi Jibon is the first project in Bangladesh to strengthen the capacity of public-sector family planning service providers by integrating mentorship into the government’s existing service delivery supervision system. This technical brief highlights innovations, results, challenges, and recommendations from Shukhi Jibon’s groundbreaking efforts to ensure that all people can receive high-quality health care from skilled, responsive, and respectful providers.
