This program brief describes the Evidence to Action (E2A) Project’s community-based family planning project in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) that supports concerted national efforts made by the DRC government to strengthen access to quality family planning services—particularly for rural, hard-to-reach communities. E2A worked closely with the Ministry of Health to develop a community-based model that applies family planning best practices to complement clinical services. The project reaches rural populations in three provinces with an integrated package of family planning and child health services where it is most convenient: in their homes, at communal public spaces, and at health posts. E2A designed the program as a scalable initiative—that is, to expand the potential reach, longevity, and impact of the interventions to reach more people and to make the interventions sustainable in the long-term.
