Shirley Machaba

Board Member

A South African with over 28 years of experience in internal and external audit, risk management, compliance, and governance, Shirley Machaba is currently CEO and Regional Senior Partner for PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Southern Africa.  At PwC, she is Chairperson of the Southern Africa Leadership team and has played key roles in the Global Government and Private Sector Leadership team, the Global Diversity and Inclusion Leadership team, and the Africa Leadership team.  Prior to serving in her role as CEO, she was PwC’s Africa Governance, Risk, and Compliance Leader; served as Chairperson of PwC’s Southern Africa board; and was a member of the PwC Africa board and global board.

Shirley is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Director for Southern Africa, and since 2020, has been a member of the Board of Trustees for the Internal Audit Foundation, a global organization with the Institute of Internal Auditors. She has been a speaker at Forbes Woman Africa Leading Women’s Summit, the Standard Bank Top Women Leaders Conference, and the International Women’s Forum South Africa Leadership Summit. She is currently a board member and audit committee member of Business Leadership South Africa, American Chamber of Commerce – South Africa, and International Women’s Forum South Africa.

Prior to her role at PwC, Shirley served as a board member for the Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa, then as President. From 1999 to 2004, she served as Chief Audit Executive for the National Department of Justice in South Africa. She was also a member of the African Federation of Institutes of Internal Auditors, representing Southern Africa, where she also served as Secretary General.
